Global Reach with Volunteerism

Volunteerism

Johnson Controls recognizes that when employees volunteer in the community, everyone wins. Globally, our employees give their time to local communities through individual, virtual and team volunteering. Many of our employee leaders serve on boards of nonprofit organizations. Volunteering allows the employee to gain valuable perspective and experience, and the communities where Johnson Controls has a presence are made stronger with our employee service. We encourage all employees to find a cause they are passionate about and volunteer regularly. We also provide resources and volunteering opportunities for them to engage with their communities.

Volunteering at Johnson Controls

Through our global volunteer program, each time our employees volunteer with a cause they are passionate about, a $10/hour corporate donation is sent directly to the participating charity. Nearly 800,000 charitable organizations in 200 countries are part of the program. Our strategy aims to create transformational experiences for our volunteers to generate value for our stakeholders.

Johnson Controls has committed to reaching 2 million volunteer hours by 2025. Since 2003, employees have volunteered more than 1.8 million hours in the communities where they live and work. To reach this ambitious goal, a global ambassador program called the Volunteer Network was launched in 2022 to encourage employees in different countries to get involved and make a difference. This signature program empowers highly engaged employees who are passionate about serving their community with resources to then amplify our positive impact around the world.

Globally, more than 80% of Johnson Controls volunteering ties to one of the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), with special focus on Sustainable Cities and Communities and Quality Education goals. Through the program, Johnson Controls seeks to better connect our philanthropy and volunteerism, leveraging the impact of both.

Volunteer Board and Committee Service

We encourage our leaders to engage fully in their communities through nonprofit board and committee service. These employees lend their talents and skills to the organization while also gaining valuable experience with diverse stakeholders in the community that they can then bring back to their position at Johnson Controls.
