Case study
Norway’s first energy-positive building
Imagine a building that produces more energy than it consumes! This is the Powerhouse Brattørkaia building in Norway that uses a Johnson Controls single seawater-sourced natural refrigerant heat pump as its heating system with the variations in load and capacity managed by our OpenBlue digital platform.
It is the first new building to achieve the ‘Powerhouse plus’ energy standard, meaning that it produces more renewable energy over its lifetime than is needed to operate, renovate, and finally demolish the building at the end of its life.

Case study
On a mission to decarbonize a Danish super hospital
New Aalborg University Hospital is a vast new hospital complex serving the entire region of northern Jutland in Denmark. They were on a mission to provide reliable, efficient and sustainable cooling for patients, machinery, servers and other equipment. Using a highly effective and sustainable district cooling system that uses a Johnson Controls heat pump in combination with cool water from a chalk lake, the new solution is up to eight times more efficient than conventional solutions.
The hospital can expect electricity savings of 80% and annual CO2 reductions of up to 700 tonnes. In addition, the heat pump can provide hot water for the local district heating network.
