Upgrading Alarm Systems for a Cohesive Hospital Campus
By Michael Jenkins, Manager National Accounts - Healthcare Services at Johnson Controls
To enhance facility security, a large southern hospital was ready to replace the alarm system in one of its 10 buildings. The existing system was 30 years old and long overdue for a replacement. However, the new alarm solution needed to not only provide the best protection possible, but also effectively communicate with the campus’ other nine buildings’ alarm systems to provide a comprehensive fire system upgrade.
Updating systems for easy alarm self-testing
Johnson Controls experts seamlessly updated the building’s existing 4100+ system to the 4100 ES alarm system. This replacement provided the hospital with addressable speakers to enable self-testing, helping the campus save on inspection costs. In addition, the 4100 ES alarm system allows security managers to test all devices with minimal disruption, ensuring every building’s alarms are in working order without interrupting critical patient care.
With an upgraded alarm system, the hospital campus is a more secure environment for patients, staff and visitors.
Safer healthcare environments through strategic improvements
With an upgraded alarm system, the hospital campus is a more secure environment for patients, staff and visitors. The backwards compatibility of the alarm system allows it to communicate with the other buildings’ older solutions to create one integrated system, while also allowing the hospital to upgrade each building slowly over time and within budget. This long-term improvement capability enables hospital leaders to create resiliency for years to come. With superior management capabilities and undisruptive self-testing, the entire hospital campus is made safer and more connected.
With hospitals continuing to make infrastructure improvements to combat the COVID-19 crisis, seamless technology upgrades are crucial to providing uninterrupted patient care.
