BETTER Energy Tool
Building Efficiency Targeting Tool for Energy Retrofits
BETTER was developed under a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA) between Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and Johnson Controls, with support from ICF.
Better is an easy-to-use tool to target efficiency improvements by turning readily-available building information and monthly energy data into recommended energy efficiency retrofits at the building and portfolio levels.
- BETTER doesn’t replace an audit, but it does provide a preliminary estimate of the size and make-up of potential energy efficiency projects
- BETTER is highly scalable and used to target energy efficiency opportunities in one or many buildings.
- BETTER is not a rating tool and does not provide a score or path to certification
- BETTER complements and interacts with DOE’s existing tools: ENERGY STAR® Portfolio
Manager,® Asset Score, BuildingSync®, and Standard Energy Efficiency Data (SEED)™
Using BETTER, you are able to gain visibility into the actual energy performance of your buildings/portfolio. It allows you to better understand how your facilities respond to varying weather conditions and highlights which facilities consume large amounts of energy compared to that of similar facilities. This data is then used to provide the recommended energy efficiency retrofits of which then you can quantify the savings of the these opportunities in dollars.
