Balancing Infection Control and Energy Efficiency: A New Analysis in the ASHRAE Journal
The COVID-19 pandemic caused an examination of how HVAC systems can help reduce the risk of transmission of airborne respiratory diseases and infectious aerosols. However, the need to mitigate infection risk often leads to increased outdoor air ventilation being increased, which can have a negative impact on energy efficiency.
The May issue of the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) Journal features an article called “Airborne Disease Transmission risk and Energy Impact of HVAC Mitigation Strategies”. Authored by Johnson Controls team members, it examines ways HVAC systems can balance these competing priorities and improve indoor air quality in efficient, sustainable ways.
