The Highest Efficiency, Dual Circuit Rooftop Units
With efficiencies as high as 21 IEER, Pro and Series 20 ultra-high efficiency (UHE) packaged rooftop units from Johnson Controls meet the stringent performance requirements set by the United States Department of Energy (DoE), ASHRAE 90.1-2013, 2015 International Energy Conservation Code and the Consortium for Energy Efficiency’s Advanced Tier. Their outstanding performance is backed by dual independent refrigerant circuits that provide system redundancy and greater overall reliability.
Efficiency Is Just the Start
Available in 3-12.5 tons (Pro) and 15-23 tons (Series 20), both the Pro and Series 20 ultra-high efficiency units match existing product footprints within the same family for increased flexibility, faster specification and easier replacement. But within that footprint, they feature impressive, high-efficiency performance that’s made possible by several, innovative technologies, including:
- 2-speed UltraTech™ compressors, enabling three or four stages of cooling, providing greater accuracy in cooling needs
- IntelliSpeed™ discrete fan control (DFC) which allows for variation of the fan speed based on number of cooling stages engaged
- ECM fan motors that adjust their RPM to maintain optimum airflow over the condenser coils
- Smart Equipment controls, which maximize system monitoring and adjustment for extended equipment life and reduced operating costs
- 2-stage heating with both gas and electric heat options to help provide improved comfort and efficiency
- Optional MagnaDRY™ reheat system, allowing part of the refrigerant’s rejected heat to be reused, increasing efficiency while reducing moisture without overcooling
- Optional variable air volume (VAV), which maintains constant static pressure in the supply duct and has three stages of cooling (20- and 23-ton VAV units feature four stages of cooling)
The Added Benefits of a Dual-Circuit Design
Beyond efficiency, these Pro and Series 20 units are all about reliability. That’s one of the reasons they feature a dual-circuit design. In this type of refrigeration system, the coil design has two sets of tubes that pass through a single set of fins in each coil. Housed within the same cabinet dimensions as a traditional, single-circuit design, each system benefits from the inherent redundancy of two completely independent circuits. If one circuit fails, the system could still operate at half capacity, providing an extra level of reliability for critical facility operators.
