Johnson Controls Opens First Dedicated Emotional Management Room for Employees in México

Johnson Controls, the global leader for smart, healthy and sustainable buildings, recently celebrated the opening of its first ‘Mind Room’ at its facility in Monterrey, México. The room is a dedicated space for employees to relax and recharge; it was designed to support all employees, including those with visible and invisible disabilities, and unique needs like neurodiversity and neurological conditions.

Employees utilizing the room have access to a quiet, soundproof and private space that has a massage chair and other articles for relaxation. Additionally, the room includes a dedicated phone line that connects directly to the Johnson Controls Employee Assistance Program, and an employee service that provides resources for those seeking psychological, medical, legal, nutritional, or financial assistance.

“Our goal with the Mind Room is to provide a sanctuary for our employees to manage stress and anxiety, and recharge. By offering a dedicated space for relaxation and access to essential resources, we are prioritizing the mental health and well-being of our team members,” said José Luis Flores, EH&S Manager, Latin America, Johnson Controls.

The room was created through a partnership between the local Environmental, Health & Safety (EH&S) Latin America team and the UNlimited Business Resource Group (BRG), an employee group that advocates for employees with a disability, and their allies. Following employee feedback, the EH&S team recommended the Monterrey site as the location to implement this initiative providing mental health resources to employees, specifically for stress and anxiety management, and from there the concept of the ‘Mind Room’ was born.

“The Mind Room is a testament to our commitment to inclusivity and support for all employees, including those who need help managing stress or may be neurodiverse. We believe that fostering a human-centered workplace where everyone feels valued and supported is crucial for our collective success,” said Marina Williams, vice president of DE&I, Johnson Controls.
This work continues to evolve with the support of the EH&S and Johnson Controls’ DE&I team. The opening marks the beginning of a series of planned Mind Rooms across the region. We believe this initiative will foster a more human-centered workplace that prioritizes inclusivity and well-being.
