Decarbonizing a multifamily building starts with electrified water heating

A large U.S. public housing authority seeking to reduce climate impact has partnered with Johnson Controls on a plan to cut greenhouse gas emissions, achieving a mandated 40% reduction by 2030.

Focused on older multifamily high rises, the plan adds the electrification of domestic water while overcoming infrastructure barriers. Residents will gain a more reliable water heating system, while the housing authority will reduce energy use and lifecycle costs.

Across 999 units serving 2,300 residents, the project is projected to reduce carbon emissions 76.4% and lower the MMBTU load 85%. Johnson Controls funding experts are helping the customer capture Inflation Reduction Act and other incentives that can be further deployed to improve infrastructure and reduce emissions.
