MILWAUKEE (June 7, 2018) — Johnson Controls will be the single point of responsibility for technology and systems integration for the new Corning Optical Communications headquarters in Charlotte, North Carolina. A division of Corning Incorporated and a world-leading provider of end-to-end connectivity solutions for communications networks, Corning Optical Communications is designing its new facility to provide a wire-it-once infrastructure that addresses the need for reliable connectivity and bandwidth that is easy to manage, affordable and future-ready.

Through the Technology Contracting™ approach, Johnson Controls is responsible for the design, integration, installation and service of the building’s technology. This process cuts installation and lifecycle costs while creating an optimized infrastructure, and ensures the building’s operations will be optimized before it is occupied. By engaging early with Johnson Controls at the outset of the project, Corning Optical Communications leveraged Johnson Controls’ design-assist services to ensure that data-driven, collaborative decisions were made early to help drive technology, sustainability and operational objectives from concept to design and through construction.

“Increased device connectivity and adoption of integrated technology systems is helping buildings realize greater functionality and efficiency, and better supporting the needs of a mobile workforce."

“Increased device connectivity and adoption of integrated technology systems is helping buildings realize greater functionality and efficiency, and better supporting the needs of a mobile workforce,” said Jim Nannini, vice president, Building Wide Systems Integration, Johnson Controls, North America. “Convergence of building systems and technologies are essential to creating a truly smart building. The Corning Optical Network Evolution (ONETM) solution will improve overall network performance and be integral to the future-ready, high-tech, and connected environment that Corning desires for its new headquarters.”

With the Metasys® building automation system, Johnson Controls will help enable systems to communicate on a single platform, creating the foundation for a smart building. The Corning solution will make the network more adaptable and efficient, and network management easier by pushing state-of-the-art composite fiber to the extreme edge for all the applications in the facility, from security to the Metasys® building automation system, to audio visual systems and Wi-Fi. The Metasys® building automation system and Corning’s solution will provide the network infrastructure critical for delivering intelligent, connected building technologies. Building-wide systems integration from Johnson Controls will include security systems, structured cabling, Wi-Fi, Cisco Network, audio visual systems, distributed antenna system, and intelligent window glass. The project will also include Simplex fire systems.

“Today’s workforce demands a smart, connected, untethered environment,” said Chris Brown, vice president, In-Building Networks, Corning Optical Communications. “As Corning employees, we come to work every day focused on transforming the way the world connects. Johnson Controls will help us drive this mission forward, working with us through every stage of the process as we create an intelligent environment that will carry us well into the future.”
