  • Johnson Controls honors the Dubai Integrated Economic Zones Authority (UAE) and Children’s of Alabama (USA) as recipients of ‘Blueprint of Future’ award.
  • Award highlights visionary leaders taking the smart leap in digital transformation to accelerate sustainability progress.

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates — Dec. 1, 2023 — Johnson Controls (NYSE: JCI), the global leader for smart, healthy and sustainable buildings, today honored two customers as OpenBlue Pioneers with its Blueprint of the Future award. The prestigious award recognizes outstanding examples of visionary thinking and digital transformation, and the impact this has delivered on customers’ spaces, businesses and communities.

“As we kick off COP28, we are proud to highlight some of the world’s most revolutionary buildings featuring Johnson Controls technology,” said George Oliver, chairman and CEO of Johnson Controls. “Our pioneers demonstrate the true potential and value of smart buildings, which are decisive in helping meet climate targets, improving energy efficiency and occupant health and wellbeing. We are excited to continue expanding this community leading the charge in digital transformation in the built environment.”

The pioneers leverage Johnson Controls Net Zero Buildings as a Service model that delivers guaranteed outcomes for a predictable monthly fee - avoiding upfront capital investment. The subscription-based model, one of the most comprehensive in the industry today, allows organizations to transfer risk while staying on track with their sustainability goals.

Both customers leverage OpenBlue, Johnson Controls’ industry-leading ecosystem of connected technologies to optimize the energy performance of their buildings. Bringing data together from across the building’s infrastructure and using advanced digital tools like edge computing, cloud connectivity and AI, OpenBlue creates operational synergies that provide unique data insights – to save more energy and emissions than possible with isolated systems.

The recipients of the 2023 Blueprint of the Future award are:

  • The Dubai Integrated Economic Zones Authority (DIEZ), an authority that consolidates and integrates the products and services of Dubai Airport Free Zone (DAFZ), Dubai Silicon Oasis (DSO) and Dubai CommerCity (DCC). DIEZ portfolio of LEED Platinum buildings in the United Arab Emirates stands at 31 today, which is a pioneering example of its commitment to align with the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050. As part of the project, DIEZ partnered with Johnson Controls to deliver comprehensive energy conservation solutions at DSO such as High Energy Efficiency Variable Speed Drive (VSD) chillers and OpenBlue Services for Optimizing Chiller Performance. These AI-driven services provide predictive analysis and maintenance, empowering DIEZ to maintain reliable operations at DSO, reduce its carbon footprint by 1848 tons per year and guarantee energy savings of 4.2 million kWh per year – a reduction of 30%.
  • Children’s of Alabama, USA, enhancing the comfort, safety and health of children across the state. Children’s of Alabama, a LEED Gold certified healthcare facility and a long-term strategic partner of Johnson Controls, is ranked as one of the best pediatric medical centers in the United States. The hospital looked to Johnson Controls to design, build, operate and maintain its new central utility plant through a 20-year contract. OpenBlue and Johnson Controls heat pump technologies have delivered $450,000 in annual savings and reduced the use of natural gas by 69% - helping them meet sustainability and resiliency objectives.

Johnson Controls launched the Blueprint of the Future Award in 2022 to spotlight businesses that are advancing a more sustainable, safe and healthy world – supported by the company’s technology and expertise. Nominations are submitted through Johnson Controls’ global field operations and the winners handpicked by Chairman and CEO George Oliver and the executive team.
