EU – The Conflict Minerals Regulation

On 1 January 2021 a new law came into full force across the EU – the Conflict Minerals Regulation. The Conflict Minerals Regulation aims to help stem the trade in four minerals – tin, tantalum, tungsten and gold – which sometimes finance armed conflict or are mined using forced labour. The regulation requires EU companies in the supply chain to ensure they import these minerals and metals from responsible and conflict-free sources only. In addition, a number of other jurisdictions, customers, suppliers and other stakeholders have set requirements or expectations concerning the sourcing and use of conflict minerals within EU. Johnson Controls supports the humanitarian goal of ending violent conflicts and forced labour in the Conflict-Affected and High Risk Areas (CAHRA).

Therefore, we are committed to conducting our worldwide business operations in a manner that complies with applicable laws and regulations. We are also committed to the responsible sourcing of “conflict minerals” throughout our supply chain. Our due diligence processes also conform to the primary principles of the internationally recognized due diligence framework from the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).
