Johnson Controls named to the Dow Jones Sustainability Index for 14th year

MILWAUKEE, Sept. 30, 2019 – Johnson Controls announced today its inclusion on the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) for the 14th year.
Karin van Baardwijk, Vice Chair of the Board, RobecoSAM and Alex Matturri, CEO, S&P Dow Jones Indices, in their letter to Johnson Controls, said “We congratulate you on this recognition of corporate sustainability leadership within your industry.”
Dow Jones Indices (S&P DJI), one of the world’s leading index providers, together with SAM, the business unit within RobecoSAM, which specializes in providing Environmental, Social, and Governance data, ratings, and benchmarking, announced the results of the annual Dow Jones Sustainability Indices review including that Johnson Controls International plc has been selected once again as an index component of the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices.
The SAM Corporate Sustainability Assessment results, derived from analysis of financially material ESG factors, alongside S&P DJI’s robust index methodology, form the basis of the construction and maintenance of the entire DJSI series. The Corporate Sustainability Assessment follows a strict rules-based methodology. After applying a range of financially relevant and industry specific Environmental, Social and Governance criteria, a Total Sustainability Score is assigned to each company
“We congratulate Johnson Controls for being included in the DJSI North America Index. The SAM Corporate Sustainability Assessment has again raised the bar in identifying those companies best-positioned to address future sustainability challenges and opportunities."
— Manjit Jus, Head of ESG Ratings, RobecoSAM
Raising the bar each year, SAM’s Corporate Sustainability Assessment is continuously enhanced to identify and measure under-researched or under-reported financially material ESG factors. This process helps better detect those companies that are well-positioned to address future sustainability-driven challenges and opportunities. The CSA now produces approximately 1,000 data points per company, and is the basis for the determination of DJSI inclusion.
Manjit Jus, Head of ESG Ratings, RobecoSAM: “We congratulate Johnson Controls for being included in the DJSI North America Index. The SAM Corporate Sustainability Assessment has again raised the bar in identifying those companies best-positioned to address future sustainability challenges and opportunities. This year – which marks the 20th anniversary of the DJSI – record corporate interest in the SAM CSA reflects the enduring relevance of the DJSI for measuring and advancing ESG practices.”
This announcement comes alongside several commitments Johnson Controls made at the September 2019 United Nations Climate Action Summit.
