Johnson Controls is committed to building safe, smart and sustainable communities where our employees live and work.

“Our commitment to education runs deep—from Johnson Controls Foundation grants to employee volunteerism in the community—Johnson Controls recognizes that a strong education can change the trajectory of lives,” said Grady Crosby, vice president, Public Affairs, chief diversity officer and president, Johnson Controls Foundation.

At Johnson Controls, we begin within our own organization, providing hundreds of thousands of dollars each year in scholarship support for college-bound children of employees.

Over the past decades, Johnson Controls has partnered with UNCF with nearly a million dollars in gifts to support Historically Black Colleges and Universities and scholarships for deserving youth.

The Johnson Controls Foundation has long provided significant grants to colleges and universities in our headquarters city of Milwaukee—UWM, Marquette University, MATC, MSOE, Alverno, Mount Mary and Cardinal Stritch, among others, are recipients of Johnson Controls’ support. Outside Milwaukee, the Foundation is active where Johnson Controls has a strong base of employee connection and volunteerism.

In our Milwaukee Headquarters location, we are a partner of Cristo Rey High School, which delivers a career-focused, college preparatory education for students with limited economic resources, uniquely integrating four years of professional work experience and support through college. Our strong program inviting Cristo Rey students into our workplace to work side-by-side our employees enables students to fulfill their aspirations for a lifetime of success.

We encourage and support our employee leaders as they serve on boards of directors on nonprofits in our community that are specifically targeted to provide students from challenging circumstances with the scaffolding they need to be successful. Their visibility into these organizations is vital to activate our philanthropic support. We are proud to support Teach for America; City Year; Pearls for Teen Girls; Big Brothers Big Sisters; and Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Milwaukee, among many others.

Our commitment to museums and the arts is also a commitment to education. Johnson Controls has provided millions of dollars to support of the United Performing Arts Fund, many of these dollars specifically targeted to youth programming. Johnson Controls works with the Milwaukee Public Museum, Discovery World, the Zoological Society and the Art Museum to ensure their programming reaches those students who otherwise would not be able to experience the world-class exhibitions that can transform our ways of thinking.

We recognize that building the workforce of tomorrow begins with our support of STEM initiatives today. We acknowledge the leadership of FIRST Robotics in their success combining the excitement of sport with the rigors of science and technology and sponsor many robotic teams on the elementary and high school level where our employees serve as coaches and volunteers.

Through our WeGive program, employees who volunteer to eligible nonprofits—including schools—receive a $10/hour contribution to their organization from Johnson Controls upon approval of tracked hours. Each year, thousands of employees volunteer at nonprofits across the globe—many with school programs. We match hundreds of elementary schools, high schools and universities through our employee and retiree matching gift program.

Johnson Controls future-focused and purpose-led values propel us to continue to find ways to support our communities as they prepare the students of tomorrow to be innovative leaders.
