Johnson Controls, the global leader for smart, healthy and sustainable buildings, was named one of the 2021 Global 100 Most SustainableGlobal100 logo Corporations in the World by Corporate Knights. This is the seventh time Johnson Controls has been given this honor.

"We feel extremely honored that we are being recognized as one of the World's 100 Most Sustainable Corporations for our sustainability efforts and strategy," said Katie McGinty, vice president & chief sustainability, government and regulatory affairs officer at Johnson Controls.  "Climate change is one of the most critical issues of our time and with our team of 100,000 employees we are firmly committed to building a world that's safe, healthy, comfortable and sustainable."

On sustainability performance, Global 100 companies represent the top one percent in the world. To determine the ranking, Corporate Knights analyzed 8,080 companies with more than US$1 billion in revenues against global industry peers on a suite of over 20 quantitative key performance indicators.

Global 100 companies also tend to both outperform financially and outlast. “This year’s analysis and results strongly suggest that the world’s leading companies learned a lesson from the aftermath of the 2008/09 financial crisis,” says Toby Heaps, CEO of Corporate Knights. “Rather than de-prioritizing sustainability when confronted with a major shock, they’ve recognized that it will drive the success of recovery strategies.”

Global 100 companies earn 41 percent of their revenues from products or services aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, compared to just 8 percent for their peers. Johnson Controls in fiscal 2019 earned 49 percent of its revenues from green products and services.

Announced concurrent with the World Economic Forum in Davos, this year's Global 100 launch included a virtual CEO roundtable discussion on speeding up the race to a net-zero-emission economy with opening remarks from His Royal Highness, The Prince of Wales and Sanda Ojiambo, CEO of United Nations Global Compact.
