MILWAUKEE (November 17, 2022) – Fiserv Forum, home to the Milwaukee Bucks, has been named a Johnson Controls Blueprint of the Future award winner, as part of its OpenBlue Pioneer awards. This honor is presented to an elite group of global innovators for creating smart, healthy and sustainable buildings using Johnson Controls OpenBlue digital technology. The award was presented by Johnson Controls Chairman and CEO, George Oliver to Milwaukee Bucks and Fiserv Forum President Peter Feigin at last night’s game.
“Fiserv Forum has fundamentally changed how we think about the fan experience,” said George Oliver, Chairman and CEO at Johnson Controls. “Through groundbreaking digital transformation at every touchpoint, they have crafted an environment that goes above and beyond to deliver an immersive, healthy, safe and sustainable experience to all who walk through their doors. Fiserv Forum is truly the beating heart of Deer District, a vibrant hub of entertainment for the community.
We are honored to work alongside their leadership team to bring this vision for a smart arena to life and are thrilled to recognize them as OpenBlue Pioneers.”
The Milwaukee Bucks’ leadership team first announced a partnership with Johnson Controls in March 2017 to become the first Founding Partner and official Smart Building Partner to support their vision of creating a world-class guest experience within Deer District, while also reinvigorating Milwaukee’s downtown area.
“Our mission is simple. We want to be pioneers. We want to be the innovators, not just in the NBA but in the world of sports and entertainment.”
– Milwaukee Bucks and Fiserv Forum President Peter Feigin
Fiserv Forum and Deer District were designed to be smart and adaptive, keeping the players, fans and staff healthy and safe. The integrated OpenBlue Healthy Building solutions proved critical during the COVID-19 pandemic, by allowing Fiserv Forum to safely welcome nearly 85,000 guests to the 2021 NBA playoffs, finals and championship. The integrated building technologies have also supported Fiserv Forum’s accomplishments in sustainability, resulting in the facility becoming the first sports entertainment venue in Wisconsin to earn a LEED Silver certification from the US Green Building Council just a year after opening. This year, Fiserv Forum achieved LEED Gold certification with a score of 75, which makes it among the leaders in sports and entertainment venues.
“Our mission is simple,” said Milwaukee Bucks and Fiserv Forum President Peter Feigin. “We want to be pioneers. We want to be the innovators, not just in the NBA but in the world of sports and entertainment.”
Over the coming years, Deer District will continue to evolve as a world-class entertainment district, and the largest development project ever undertaken in downtown Milwaukee, combining entertainment, residential, retail and commercial spaces. The strong foundation of technology in the arena will be leveraged to enable future businesses and partners.
